The Orion 12-inch Diam. Tabletop Globe offers a tasteful blend of classic sensibilities and modern style. Vivid colors distinguish countries, regions, states, and other current political borders, and form a striking contrast to the black oceans. For added effect, the globe lights up at the flip of a switch, gently illuminating each land formation. The bulb is easy to replace, requiring no tools. My daughter wanted a lighted globe for her 30th birthday. She fondly remembered having one as a child, so I ordered a beautiful globe from World Globes. She was thrilled! We have spent a lot of delightful time looking at the map, testing one another on country capitols, etc. To the best of my knowledge, it seems to be a current map of the world. One of the most attractive things about the globe I bought is the black background (the oceans are black, not the traditional blue). This makes everything really pop out. visually. It also makes it more unique looking than the traditional globe. It looks fabulous with the light on, yet it's very readable and attractive when not alight. We are completely pleased and recommend it thoroughly.

I thought this globe looked nicer in the picture then in person, it was nice, and i liked the black ocean instead of the standard blue ocean you see on most globes, however, i was disappointed with the quality of the globe, The stand was sturdy, but the actual globe itself was very thin, and the seam where it was glued together (the equator line) was not smooth, and had gaps in places. I just feel for the price, this should have been constructed better. I do like the fact that it lights up, and it gives a nice glow.

It was bought for a Christmas gift for my husband. He loves History. He has an Atlas that he keeps by his chair and now he has the Globe and loves it. If there is a place he hears about he looks it up on the Globe. He was in the Navy and has been to several places. Now he can show the grandkids as he is telling them stories about where he has traveled while in the Navy. We have found nothing wrong with the Globe, it turns easy and with the light you can see everything very good. It was a good choice for a gift for my husband. He loved the fact that it was made in the United State of America. Thanks

          The colors of the countries near the seam of the globe seam to be discolored perhaps by the residue of glue used to connect the top and bottom. There is some noise when when rotating the globe.

            It is a gift for my daughter who wanted a globe of the world to see where she's been and where she wants to go. The colors are beautiful especially when illuminated. Good quality for the price.

              Q1: How do you change the light bulb?

              A: Take the black pin out of the top of the globe and slide the globe ball over the light bulb and out of the semi meridian. Replace the bulb and slip the ball back into place. No tools required.

              Q2: Is this ac power or are there batteries?

              A: This illuminated globe uses an electrical cord. Typically most illuminated globes use a standard 110v plug and hangs loose from the bottom of the illuminated globe. Attached to the electrical cord is an inline dial type switch that allows you to turn the illumination on or off.
