Globe Features

Illuminated

Illuminated globes use an internal bulb to light the globe from within. When plugged into a power source, the soft glow illuminates all the world, so to speak. Some globes have a "touch-on illumination" feature that allows the globe to light with a simple touch of the meridian ring. Other globes have a "two-way" map feature. These globes show physical borders when unlit political boundaries when illuminated.

These globes use textured contours to represent the mountain ranges and ridges of the world. Due to accuracy and manufacturing techniques, raised relief is only available on globes with diameters between 9-16 inches.

Globe Mounting Styles

Full-Meridian Full-Meridian mounting has a full circle encompassing the entire sphere.  Most of these styles use a gyro-matic system to allow you easy viewing with full dual-axis rotation. This dual-axis rotation enables you to spin the globe while the tilting the poles. This mounting style is most common on table top globes.
Semi-Meridian Semi-Meridian mounting uses a semi-circle meridian allowing for full rotation (spinning) along a single axis.
Inclination Inclination mounting allows for full rotation (spinning) along one axis. The globe is mounted on a spire instead of a meridian.
Leg Mounting Leg Mounting uses a full meridian, but only allows for single-axis rotation (spinning) due to the legs and larger base. This mounting style is most common on floor and decorative desk top globe styles.
