This globe features antique parchment oceans and land formations in rich, varied colors that clearly denote countries, regions, states, and other current political borders. It is encircled by a die-cast metal meridian, and set in a dark cherry-finished hardwood stand with three banded legs with balled feet. The legs are connected with a three-sided platform for extra stability. A raised-relief surface clearly marks mountain ranges, while simple text and accurate denotations of thousands of place names allow for easy use. For an added distinctive touch, personalization is available. Perfect for a study, living area, or office.

    This globe is attractive enough to be placed in any number of different settings or rooms, both classy or casual. It is not just a globe but acts as a piece of furniture that can act as a backdrop for decorating ideas much like vases, pictures, or shelf ornaments. On the practical side, it gives a different view of the world we live in and can be a compliment to an atlas. I would compare it to a grandfather clock (which we have);you don't really need it but it adds to the ambience of the room and can be useful if you wish it to be. It is a good quality item that did not disappoint when it arrived. This is not an item that you would hide away somewhere, it needs to be seen. Obviously, I really like it.

    Looks great but needs metal reinforcing of the globe mounting slots - the globe rocks in it's base and may cause the slots in the base to crack or get rounded over time. Also most parts of the Southern hemisphere are tough to see due to the wood base height.
