Special Features The point at which the equator and the prime meridian intersect is called '0.' From here, numbered lines of longitude increase in 15 degree increments and run parallel to the prime meridian. Running parallel to the equator in increments of 10 degrees are latitude lines. At the intersection of these lines are locations on the globe. One example is Dallas, Texas which is at 33 degrees North latitude and 97 Degrees West longitude. What is the latitude and longitude of your city? |

The metal ring that extends across half or all of the world globe is the Meridian. The Meridian was used to find locations on the globe before the introduction of latitude and longitude. Although meridians are not used anymore, many globes still have one to assist in stabilizing the globe.
