The space between them is filled with a clear, non-toxic fluid that provides buoyancy and prevents contact between the two globes. The inner globe, floating and turning in a virtually frictionless environment, is akin to the earth itself. A highly efficient drive mechanism within the inner globe ensures rotation in virtually any ambient light. Solar cells harness that energy, and a magnetic element reacts to the earth's magnetic field in the manner of a common compass to provide torque.
