The MOVA globe is powered only by natural light and the force of the earth's magnetic field. It contains an inner globe that rotates within the fixed acrylic outer shell. The space between them is filled with a clear, non-toxic fluid that provides buoyancy and prevents contact between the two globes. The inner globe, floating and turning in a virtually frictionless environment, is akin to the earth itself. A highly efficient drive mechanism within the inner globe ensures rotation in virtually any ambient light. Solar cells harness that energy, and a magnetic element reacts to the earth's magnetic field in the manner of a common compass to provide torque.
The optical properties of both the outer shell and fluid have been carefully chosen to magnify features on the inner globe. As a result, the outer globe appears to rotate despite resting on the stand, in quiet defiance of commonly held ideas about the laws of friction. This globe measures 7.25 inches high with the display stand. Beautiful and arresting, it will form a meditative point of focus for any room.

I bought this for my husband for a promotion he received and he absolutely LOVES it. It started to rotate right out of the box, nothing to plug in and it doesn't need batteries so that is a huge plus!! It's a great conversation piece and already he's had a lot of positive comments. Looks so beautiful in his office. Well worth the money! May have to purchase another for our home office!
