We bought this for our 7 y/o who is interested in geography. It was a replacement for a "smart globe" that we had bought for Christmas which did not live up to our expectations and was ultimately returned. He was fascinated by the levitating properties of this globe and chose it himself for a replacement. The item arrived quickly and in good condition. However, there are no instructions whatsoever in the box. I had read earlier reviews that the globe itself would get sucked up onto the magnet continually, and I was apprehensive when we couldn't get it to work on our own. After many tries, we figured out that if you place your finger (or two) under the magnet while someone holds the globe in place and then slowly remove your hand, it is the perfect distance for the magnet to levitate the globe. Once you have it in place, the globe works well and can withstand minor bumping or movement. If you push it a little, it will even spin briefly. The other reason I did not give it 5 stars is that there is no "off/on" switch, and even if there were, there is no place for the globe to rest. Not really an issue except for the fact that the globe is lighted (hadn't realized that) and that it illuminated my son's room while he was trying to sleep. We solved the problem by pushing the globe up to the magnet, which turns the light off. All in all, we are happy with the globe and would recommend it.

This levitating globe is exclusive to Hayneedle and World Globes.com. We love this globe - and we think you will, too - because it's a unique gift idea for that hard-to-buy-for person. This globe easily levitates between the metal arm and the hidden magnetic field in the base. For pointers on this we suggest reading through the instructions and watching the video on the site. The globe also features soft blue LED lights that are illuminated when the globe levitates.
This globe works wonderfully as a decorative accent or as a tool to learn geography!
